CubicExplorer - Free file manager for Windows
Review by on
Navigating through your folders comfortably may be more important than you think, especially if there is much work to be done. If you are used to working in Windows Explorer, it may be difficult to adapt the different graphics and structure of a third party file manager. Using CubicExplorer will feel like navigating in Windows Explorer and the additional tools it provides will make your work go smoothly. It is like a normal explorer window, but with many gadgets attached.

You can use the application without needing to buy a license. CubicExplorer is free and open source and you may install it on most Windows versions, regardless if your hardware is new or obsolete.

CubicExplorer lets you browse your folders just like in a standard explorer window. It features the same icons you would find when launching My Computer and they can be accessed by double clicking them or by making use of the tree menu in the lower left area of the interface. Navigation tabs can be created by clicking a small button, next to the existing ones. This will make things faster if you need to constantly move contents from one place to another.

Bookmarking locations will also help you navigate faster. These can be created by clicking and dragging files or folders to a box, above the navigation tree. You can also access a preview of media files and set up filters in this area by clicking a series of navigation tabs. With the buttons available on the toolbar, you can change the main view mode to thumbnails, list, details and so on. Video or audio files can be previewed with the software's built in media player if you switch to the filmstrip view mode. Other buttons will bring up a built in text editor on a new tab, display search options or empty the Recycle Bin.

Pros:
CubicExplorer is similar to Windows Explorer, which makes it feel very familiar. It makes browsing your folders faster and easier, due to the variety of tools and features it places at your disposal. The application can be downloaded and installed fast and it won't cost anything.

Cons:
A few default settings are a bit uncomfortable. For example, right clicking is the equivalent of the Folder Up option.

Anything you do in Windows Explorer, and more, can be done faster with CubicExplorer. It will feel the same, but you will work with greater efficiency.
